The 3,000-plus seat Mainstreet Theatre opened in October 30, 1921. It was the first theatre in Kansas City to contain a nursery for parents attending shows. The Mainstreet Theatre also featured an underground tunnel which connected it to the nearby President Hotel. Meet Jose. He’s a junior at @kcps_lincolnprep and center on the @lcpafootball team. His parents own/run an amazing food truck, @la_hamburguesaloca. ⁣ ⁣ I just thought it important to highlight how much Jose’s family contributes to our school. They supplement our bare-bones concessions with their extensive menu each home game … then contribute a percentage of the earnings back to the school’s booster club! I came across this beautiful “still life” at one of the farmers houses we visited. Anyone you come across, traveling through the rural areas, will inevitably have one or more of these objects with them. They each illustrate what hard working people Rwandans are. ⁣ ⁣ The hoe - seems to be the main and usually, only tool, farmers use for working their land and crops. ⁣ ⁣ The bike - a family may own one bike which they share to transport anything … literally anything from chickens to couches. One gear. Reinforced frame to haul just about anything up and down the many hills. ⁣ ⁣ The yellow water canisters - You’ll see kids of all ages fetch water for their families at sunrise, before school, and again after school. Usually on foot but sometimes using a bike, they can travel quite a distance across rough terrain and always up and down steep slopes. The country built designated water reservoirs at strategic locations between villages. Rwanda Genocide Memorial⁣ ⁣ From April through June 1994, more than 800,000 Rwandans were brutally slaughtered by fellow citizens in a state-led genocide targeting the Tutsi ethnic group. About 75% of the Tutsi population died in the mass killings.⁣ ⁣ Learning about the atrocities that took place, not so long a go, and witnessing where Rwandans are now, only 29 years later, is amazing. They’ve found a way to reunite and focus on the future rather than dwell on hate and retaliation. I can’t imagine how difficult this road has been for all the families.
